January Drug Tariff News

Additions to Part 2

Only 4 items have been added to Part 2 in the January Drug Tariff and these 4 items are:

  • Evrenzo tablets (ALL)
  • Nalmefene 18mg tablets
  • Roxadustat 20mg tablets
  • Roxadustat 70mg tablets

Generally, items which fall into Part 2 of the Drug Tariff have no Wholesaler discount, you are potentially dispensing at a loss. You may consider sending the prescription away to a local Pharmacy to be dispensed.

Additions to Part 8a

8 items have been added to Part 8a of the January Drug Tariff. Ones which I think you will find of interest are:

  • Dexamethasone 1mg tablets have gone into the January Drug Tariff as a Category C item with the reimbursement based on Zentiva Pharma UK Ltd at £3.54.
  • Metformin 850mg modified-release tablets has gone into the Drug Tariff with the reimbursement price based on Glucophage. This product is currently solus with AAH and has a 5% discount.
  • Rivaroxaban 10mg, 15mg and 20mg capsules have all gone into the Drug Tariff as Category C items, reimbursement based on Aspire Pharma Ltd and are all reimbursed at £45.36. Currently all strengths can be purchased between £15-£16.00 – making a healthy margin.

Deletions to Part 8a

9 items have been deleted from the January Drug Tariff, ones which I think you may find of interest are:

  • Hypromellose 0.32% eye drops has been removed from the January Tariff, this was more commonly known as Artelac. Artelac was discontinued in July 24.
  • Hypromellose 0.32% eye drops 0.5ml unit dose preservative free – again more commonly known as Artelac. This product was discontinued in July 24.
  • Lidocaine 400mg/20ml (2%) / Adrenaline (base) 100micrograms/20ml (1 in 200,000) solution for injection vials more commonly known as Xylocaine 2% with Adrenaline – this was discontinued in July 24.

As a reminder Items which have been removed from the Drug Tariff part 8A can still be prescribed and dispensed but you will need to endorse the prescription with manufacturer, pack size and price paid.

Other Changes to Part 8a

38 items are listed in ‘Other Changes, the ones which I think you will find of interest are:

  • Benzoyl peroxide 5% / Clindamycin 1% gel has moved from a Category M back to a Category C. This product has been a Generic over Tariff ever since moving to Category M. It’s a relief to see the reimbursement price increase.
  • Gliclazide 30mg modified-release tablets has moved from a Category C to a Category M and the reimbursement price has dropped from £2.81 – £1.67. Please use caution when purchasing as all 3 wholesalers are stocking the gliclazide 30mg but all are over tariff price at the moment.
  • Progesterone micronised 100mg capsules – this was sitting as a Category C with the reimbursement price based on Utrogestan, has now dropped to a Category M and the reimbursement price has fallen to £4.48. This can be purchased under tariff but currently only Shortline wholesalers are selling it cheap enough – take care!
