FAQ

Hi Amanda,

Hope you’re ok!

A patient has been issued with Warburtons rolls/bread on script, I’ve had a look and only can see AAH stocking it – the price is showing at around £13, DMD is saying its around £2.50/£3 reimbursement. Would this be a script to send elsewhere as we will lose money on it?

Hi there

Lovely to hear from you- hope you are well?

It looks like AAH are charging for a pack and DMD are listing individually – so price for each roll for example.

Depends how many packs on the script, whether to send away or not.

There will be no discount but you might retain some of the dispensing fee.

Hey Amanda,

Hope you guys are well.

We’re being asked to prescribe Rimegepant, which is a fancy new migraine drug, by the neurologists.

It comes in packs of 2 or 8 and they want 36 a month. It’s available on Alliance at tariff price £103.20 for 8 and I’m assuming no discount although not sure.

So I have calculated a loss of around £40 on a single prescription!

Is this one to send away to the local pharmacy?

Just wondered if you could check I’ve got things right?

Hi

Good to hear from you – hope all is well?

Your calculation is correct, you will lose approx. £40 on a script for 36 tablets.

On a positive note, it’s also sitting in Part 2 of the Drug Tariff which means that if pharmacy dispense, they will suffer no clawback.

So Pharmacy would not make any loss – it’s a definite send to pharmacy.

Hi Amanda

Please can I take your advice on Ganfort eye drops?

Are we better to prescribe and dispense the brand or the generic?

Hi there,

I’ve put a table together above which hopefully explains.

Product List price/tariff price Less clawback 11.18% Discounted price ( 57%) or generic Profit after clawback + disp fee = £2.00
Ganfort £14.16 £12.56 £6.08 £6.48 £8.48
Bimatoprost + Timolol £10.16 £9.02 £10.40 -£1.38 0.62p
