FAQ

Hi Amanda,

Can I just ask, I’m looking at our prostate injectables and moving all Prostap / Zoladex to one wholesaler.  Do you know of any good discounts around for Decapeptyl by any chance please?

Hi there,

Hope you are well?

Decapeptyl is a dual wholesaler with AAH and PSUK only.

Both offer a 20% rebate – AAH offer the 20% off invoice price whereas PSUK offer 20% retrospectively.

Hi Amanda,

Hope you are well?

There was a question raised at the Doctors meeting the other day regarding Provera 10mg for delaying periods and that it should be sent away as it loses us money but they weren’t sure. What are your thoughts?

HI there,

It looks like there is no discount ☹

Its £22.16 for 90 tablets so taking the dispensing fee into account, you would just about break even.

There are some PI’s around but not that cheap – OTC at the moment are selling at £22.04 for 90 so cheaper but not cheap enough to negate the clawback.

Hi Amanda,

Query about salbutamol use please if you might be able to advise. We are going to be starting spirometry lung function testing at the practice soon which for some patients requires reversibility testing using a salbutamol inhaler – there seems some concern from some staff that to do this we would have to prescribe the inhaler ( which might be only used for a few puffs then chucked away ) and the feeling was for those patient who pay prescriptions they may be unkeen to do this.  We probably dont mind losing the cost of the inhalers (small numbers) if we don’t prescribe it but are wondering if we would fall foul of some requirement to have to raise a script to be able to administer the few puffs to allow the patient to have the reversibility part of the spirometry test.

Hi there

Hope you are well?

Salbutamol inhaler is a Prescription only medication (POM) so a prescription should be raised for all patients.

For the minority who would actually pay for a prescription – a FP10 should be raised but if you are not going to collect the £9.90 levy, then the prescription needs to be shredded.

The team need to be aware that where a prescription can be raised and submitted, then it should be.

The above process of shredding the FP10 is only for patients of ‘paying status’ and if you are not collecting the Levy.

 Hope that makes sense?
