February Drug Tariff News
Additions to Part 2
Only 6 items have been added to Part 2 in the February Drug Tariff. Ones which you may find of interest are:
- CareSens Air Sensor
- FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor
- Melatonin 2mg/ml oral solution sugar free
- Roxadustat 100mg tablets
- Roxadustat 50mg tablets
Generally, items which fall into Part 2 of the Drug Tariff have no Wholesaler discount, you are potentially dispensing at a loss. You may consider sending the prescription away to a local Pharmacy to be dispensed.
Additions to Part 8a
9 items have been added to Part 8a of the February Drug Tariff. Ones which I think you will find of interest are:
- Cannabidiol 100mg/ml oral solution sugar free has gone into the February Drug Tariff with the reimbursement price based on Epidyolex. The reimbursement is sitting at a whopping £850.29. This is a Schedule 5 Controlled Drug.
- Glyceryl trinitrate 400micrograms/ dose pump sublingual spray- 75 doses has gone into the Drug Tariff with the reimbursement price based on Nitrolingual. Currently none of the 3 mainline wholesalers appear to stock it.
- Midazolam 2.5mg/0.25ml oromucosal solution pre-filled oral syringes sugar free has gone into the February Drug Tariff with the reimbursement price based on Epistatus. This is a Schedule 3 Controlled Drug.
Deletions to Part 8a
5 items have been deleted from the February Drug Tariff, ones which I think you may find of interest are:
- Acetazolamide 250mg modified release capsules, more commonly known as Diamox SR has been removed from the February Drug Tariff. This product was discontinued in November 2024.
- Minocycline 100mg tablets has been removed from the February Drug Tariff. Although this product hasn’t been discontinued, only AAH appear to stock it.
- Somatropin (rbe) 10mg/2ml solution for injection cartridges – pack 1 and 3, more commonly known as NutropinAq. Both pack sizes were discontinued in August 2024.
As a reminder Items which have been removed from the Drug Tariff part 8A can still be prescribed and dispensed but you will need to endorse the prescription with manufacturer, pack size and price paid.
Other Changes to Part 8a
7 items are listed in ‘Other Changes, the ones which I think you will find of interest are:
- Clobetasol 0.05% cream and ointment was sitting in the Drug Tariff as a Category C with the reimbursement price based on Dermovate. Both items have remained as a Category C but Dermovate has been removed as the brand which the reimbursement price is based on- this is one to watch!
- Dihydrocodeine 120mg modified release tablets and 90mg modified release tablets were sitting in the Drug Tariff as a Category C with the reimbursement price based on DHC Continus. Both items have remained as a Category C but the reimbursement is now based on Ennogen Healthcare International Ltd
- Lidocaine 5% medicated plasters are a Category C and the reimbursement price is based on Versatis. Now reads ‘Lidocaine 700mg medicated plasters’ – you might need to ensure your medical systems are updated.
