September Drug Tariff News

Additions to Part 2

3 items have been added to Part 2 in the September Drug Tariff. These 3 items are:

  • PaediaSure fibre tube feed liquid
  • PaediaSure Plus tube feed liquid
  • PaediaSure tube feed liquid

Generally, items which fall into Part 2 of the Drug Tariff have no wholesaler discount, you are potentially dispensing at a loss. You may consider sending the prescription away to a local Pharmacy to be dispensed.

Additions to Part 8a

8 items have been added to Part 8a of the September Drug Tariff. Ones which I think you will find of interest are:

  • Buprenorphine 25+ 30micrograms/ hour transdermal patches have gone into the September Drug Tariff as a Category C item with the reimbursement price based on Reletrans. Currently only Alliance seem to be stocking it.
  • Omeprazole 10mg/15ml oral solution unit dose sugar free and 20mg/15ml have both gone into the Drug Tariff as a Category C item.
  • Prednisolone 5mg soluble tablets sugar free, pack size 30 has gone into the Drug tariff as a Category M item. This item was previously listed but not as Sugar free. You will need to ensure prescriptions now state ‘Sugar Free’.

Deletions to Part 8a

Only 2 items have been deleted from the September Drug Tariff.

These 2 items are:

  • Prednisolone 5mg soluble tablets- as above these have been deleted but added as Sugar Free.
  • Vardenafil 10mg orodispersible tablets sugar free – more commonly known as Levitra. This was discontinued in April 2023.

As a reminder Items which have been removed from the Drug Tariff part 8A can still be prescribed and dispensed but you will need to endorse the prescription with manufacturer, pack size and price paid.
